Wiped out post-Christmas

A new annual tradition in photography . . .

Favorite toys from Christmas 2008

A furniture filled Christmas

Grace has learned to use a chair at school and church (activity table chairs) and at her grandparents' house (Kristie's childhood rocking chair), but the poor girl has had no chair at her own house.  She has had floor pillows and such, but she had taken to pulling tupperware out of the cabinet and sitting on it as a make shift chair.

Well, that all got corrected this Christmas.  She got a chair for her room, a chair for the living room, and an activity table with two chairs.

As you can see, she may be the only toddler ever overjoyed with receiving furniture for Christmas.  She actually moved presents out of the chair so she could sit in it to open them.

Christmas morning - our little elf

We had no presents under the tree until after Grace went to bed on Christmas Eve.  She was really impressed to find it full on Christmas morning.

We started with the stockings by the hearth.

She loved her new play phone and can now say "Hello!"

Christmas Eve

We went to the annual "Family Service" at University Christian Church and Kristie's parents joined us.

Thanksgiving 2008

Our annual joint family lunch at Ridglea Country Club.

Spoon control!

Grace finally started feeding herself oatmeal with a spoon all by herself.

Halloween 2008

Grace was a Pirate Princess for Halloween this year.  The inspiration was for months she was growling with a tone that sounded a bit like a pirate's "Aarrgh."  Of course, by Halloween, she was not doing it anymore.

We visited other houses in the neighborhood with neighborhood friends.  Some homes insisted that the parents take candy with them despite our claims that we were not really Trick-or-Treating.

Walking in the park - video

Here is a short video of Grace walking around at the park.  Over the past 4 weeks, she has finally taken the leap from standing on her own in the middle of a room, to walking at least as much as she is crawling.

Swinging in the park - video

Here is a short video of Grace on the swing set.

Swinging at the playground

A nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Zoo, take 2

This past Friday, we had a family day at the zoo, as Brian's parents were able to join in.  Grace was about 5 months older than her first trip to the zoo, and it made a big difference, she was definitely more interested in what was happening and seeing the animals.  She did get a little scared when the monkeys started swinging right up close to the glass!

Learning to share

Despite not having brothers or sisters, Grace seems to be learning to share.  While I would like to take credit, I am sure that it is from time in the nursery and Weekday School.  Now, if we could only get her to understand that the stuffed animals don't need to drink water . . .

The simple things

No matter how much we spend on our kids, it seems sometimes the simplest things give them pleasure.  Whether an empty kleenex box, a paper towel tube, or in this case a box lid.

Or, the simple rubber bouncy ball is a new pleasure.

Newest toy - first riding toy

It's from Germany and it's called the "Cheekie Chick".  Funny looking but pretty neat.

First day of school

Grace had her first day of school at the Weekday School two weeks ago.

Family visits

We also made some family and friend visits in August.  We saw Krisite's grandmother in Whitney and my uncles in Austin.  We also saw Kristie's aunt and uncle in Salado and friends in Austin.  We don't seem to have pictures with everyone we saw, so if you have some, send them our way!

Weekend in Granbury

Back in August, we spent a long weekend in Granbury at the Taliaferro farm house.  It was a great time for us all to just get away and relax together, including the dogs.

Fun in the water

Grace took swimming lessons this summer, and on a couple of occasions got into the kiddie pool in the backyard.

New toy and learning to stand/walk

Some of the better photos from Grace's new adventure in standing, and we think pretty soon, walking.
